Many people don’t realize that LEGO’s home isn’t a corporate skyscraper, but a small town in Denmark named Billund.
Billund is where LEGO was born and where the company’s headquarters still reside today. It’s also home to one of the first LEGO factories, the original LEGOLAND theme park, and, most recently, a truly special place: The LEGO House.
Opened in 2017, The LEGO House serves as a museum, interactive playground, and celebration of creativity. One of it’s missions is to showcase the endless imagination of the LEGO community and one avenue for that is the rotating Masterpiece Gallery.
Every year, around a dozen extraordinary fan-built creations are selected by invitation only. The LEGO House team chooses builders from around the world to travel to Billund and install their MOCs (My Own Creations) for a one-year exhibition. Being selected is considered a large honor in the AFOL (Adult Fans of LEGO) community.
Since the LEGO House opened, SEALUG has seen three members invited to exhibit their creations, a rare achievement for any LUG. Members Anuradha Pehrson, Eric Law, and Kimberly Giffen each bring their own creative voice and vision to the global LEGO community while continuing to inspire excellence and collaboration here in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

“Words cannot describe this kind of honor or experience. From the moment I received an email from Jan Bayer inviting me to display at the LEGO House to the moment I was packing up my MOC at the end of the year, everything was surreal.”
“To be recognized in this way by TLG and by my peers was a great honor. One of the best parts was meeting other builders from around the world… and feeling both pride and imposter syndrome—all at the same time.”

“It was a wonderful experience where I met 14 other builders from around the world. One of my favorite things was taking it to other shows afterward and having people tell me they’d seen it at the LEGO House in Denmark.”

“The experience at LEGO House was one of the highlights of the year. Even with the stressful moment of sliding the model into the display case, there’s nothing better than being recognized for your artistic ability.”
“What I really loved was meeting artists from 12 different countries. The LEGO community is so much bigger than our local LUGs—it connects people who share a passion.”

The LEGO community in the Pacific Northwest, spanning Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia, has made a lasting impact on the LEGO hobby. Our region is home to a vibrant network of LUGs including SPSLUG, PSLTC, PortLUG, Great Northern Lego Railway, VLC, Fraser Valley LUG, and MiLUG. Together, we collaborate through fan conventions and public exhibitions such as BrickCon, Bricks Cascade, and events in Canada that inspire both builders and the public. LEGO fans from the Pacific Northwest have gone on to become LEGO designers, appear on LEGO Masters, or launch leading Recognized Fan Media outlets. The creativity, craftsmanship, and sense of community found here continues to inspire LEGO fans of all ages around the world.
If you ever find yourself in Denmark, be sure to visit the LEGO House in Billund. It’s more than a museum, it’s a celebration of the creativity that connects LEGO fans everywhere.
