SEALUG Monthly Meeting

Woodinville Public Library

Seattle

Heidi and Zach

Here are a few possible agenda items for the next meeting:

1. SCOPE update (since folks will be meeting tomorrow night). NWBrickCon
'06.
2. If Dan can make it, it would be fun to hear a live report on his LEGO
trip with more detail than he's shared here so far. Would also like to hear
the outcome of his concerns he expressed several meetings back about
maintenance and upkeep of remote LEGO projects.
3. Batman sets and new set discussion.
4. The concept of a fixed meeting location or always a public location.
5. LEGO Ambassador update from Todd if he's available.
6. I wouldn't mind an update on the LEGOLAND theme parks and the transfer
over to the Merlin Entertainment/BlackStone group. Does anyone know if or
how things have changed?
7. Does anyone have any insight about how the LEGO Company performed in Q4?
8. I would like to re-explore the concept of (1) MOC trading OR (2)
alternate set building. Summary: (1) Build a small MOC (low cost) and show
up at the meeting with the intent of trading. (2) We all pick a low cost
set and bring an alternate model to the meeting to show off, trade or draft.
9. Build in someone else's style, contest.
10. Future vision for our website? I think it would be nice if we text
enabled the site so if you saw a good deal at a store you could send a
message from your mobile phone and have it post both on our site AND at the
google group.

What:
Several MOCs were displayed.

Wayne lead a discussion of NWBrickCon 2006, including the participation of
charities, the details of the event (October 6, 7, and 8, with
load-in only on October 5, at the Seattle Center Pavillion), and the
urgent need for a Public Relations Director (to act as a press contact and
coordinate advertising). Early registrations were accepted, and Web
registration will open soon at the early-bird price of $38, with the price
progressively increasing towards the regular registration price of $50.

Dan Parker spoke of his experiences at a meeting of Lego Certified
Professionals in Enfield recently.

Todd Kubo, our local Ambassador, gave an update. Although briefly
posponed due to Jake McKee's leaving the company, the third round of
Ambassador application/selection will begin very shortly, with the
program going strong. TLG and Todd are interested in discussions of
leaks---do they hurt, do they help, can they be controlled or eliminated.
Also, the LEGOLAND parks will be undergoing some expansions under their
new management; this may be interesting.

Several people drafted set 5994, Catapult. Then twelve people drafted ten
copies of set 4507, Prehistoric Creatures.

Next Meeting:
When: Saturday, March 4, 2006
Where: Burien Public Library
Host: Thomas Rafert
Draft: 6205, V-Wing Fighter
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6205
http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/6205-1
Theme: None

_However_, David Schilling plans to coordinate a Great Ball Contraption at
NWBC06, so expect the GBC to be the theme of a meeting between now and
October. Give more than a month to build something. For details,
see
http://www.teamhassenplug.org/GBC/
particularly the Type 1b interface. Note that a GBC need not involve
Mindstorms, and that the Hassenplug standard may not be precisely the
same as the standard used at NWBC06.
